Bob Geldof Caricature Sketch

This sketch is intended to be the basis of an oil painting I’m planning. I’m hoping to get around to actually painting it sometime before the inevitable heat death of the universe.

Gift Caricature

The setting here is supposed to be a nightclub*. Rather than have a load of distracting detail drowning out the main picture (plus out of laziness), I just did vague shapes in the background to “suggest” a club.

There’s a possibility this is a bit retro because to be honest I don’t know what the inside of one of those places looks like any more. For all I know these days the walls are covered in HD screens showing Facebook pages, and you text in your drink orders. And go to the jacks via Sat Nav. Drawing came out nice though, I think.

* or should that be ‘Niteclub’ maybe? Somebody book me into a home please. I think it’s time.

Gift Caricature (Work Leaving)

Last-day-in-the-job present. I moved the drawing to the left to leave space for well-wishers and admirers to sign it.

Withnail And I Caricature

What better way to spend a Saturday morning than doing a digital drawing of a scene from Withnail And I, in sepia?

Gift Caricature (Wedding)

Wedding season at the moment. Here’s a happy couple I drew last week (Wedding is today I think).

I must find out what people actually do with these caricatures in relation to their wedding. Most couples ask for them to be ready in advance of the big day rather than afterwards. Do they display them at the reception maybe? I know at least one pic I did was on the top table during the meal, which was nice.

Quarehawk In The News

Wow, what a week! Got a write-up in TWO national newspapers. This from The Daily Mail Wednesday the 12th of May …

And then the Irish Sun on Sat 15th …

Also got a mention on 2fm, on Colm & Jim Jim’s Breakfast Show. Delighted! Gotta say thanks to Ryan Tubridy for being such a good sport and putting the caricature up as his Twitter Avatar, which is what led to all the exposure.

Now, what next? How am I supposed to follow THAT? *breathes into a paper bag*

Elvis Caricature

No collection of caricatures is complete without at least one attempt at Elvis. Now just need to do Marilyn Monroe and Sean Connery for the trilogy. Might try Connery this weekend, Saturday maybe (or “Shatterday” as he’d call it).

Gift Caricature (Engagement)

John and Christine.

“Wow!! Unreal!!” - Email from John

Kevin Spacey Caricature

Bit of a mixed reaction to this one. A few people I showed it to said it doesn’t look anything like Kevin Spacey and that I must have been having a mental episode if I thought otherwise. And fair enough, that’s their honest opinion. There’s always going to be different reactions to artwork and I suppose you have to be prepared to take a bit of good-natured criticism once in a while (I’ve cut off all contact with those people now and will devote the rest of my life to ensuring their dreams go unfulfilled).

Gift Caricature (Engagement)

Ronan and Naomi (Hair colour different to reference photos by request, not due to me being colour-blind).

“It’s really fab…the unveiling was a pillow case…but still added dramatic effect!” - Naomi
